An opera in two acts, with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, Don Giovanni is a darkly comedic tale of seduction, suspicion and the brazen actions of a scoundrel. Originally based on the Spanish legend of Don Juan and set in mid-17th century Seville, Opera Australia’s new production shifts the debauchery to a sumptuous 1950s setting – a mid-century fable exploring the cost of refusing accountability.
